Twin Turbo 1UZ 1970 Ford Capri street/strip car

The 1UZFE EGR Delete Kit is available for sale here.
we took the Capri out tonight for a little Wednesday night fun and some final testing and checks for the APSA Pro Street Shootout. back on the radials, being a Wednesday night we aren't allowed to run faster than 9.0 so we were only doing half track testing, wanted to get the tune right down low. we weren't expecting much from the track, being a Wednesday night it's not usually prepped.

1st pass: she knocked out a 1.389 60' and 130mph to 1/2 track, we were definitely not expecting that good a 60' but we were gonna take it.

2nd pass: 60' a 1.26 and 128mph, happy with the 60' not so much the 1/2 track.

3rd pass: wasted pass. it blazed the tyres off the line, 1.46 60' didn't bother staying in it, data would have been useless. left the tune as it was.

4th (last) pass: we spoke to a track official and asked if we could do a full pass, he gave the ok. track had a bit of heat in it and it was nice cool air, staged the car nicely, came out of the hole sweet and a 1.336 60', best 60' on a radial by 3/100ths, car sounded strong, ran 131mph to 1/2 track, won't say what she ran, watch the video ;)

Joe was on fire with his lights tonight, cut like a .040, .018 and a .014 on the full tree and a .140 on the Pro Tree :D

we are now 7 passes in on a radial tyre, we are extremely happy with the progress, the car seems to love the extra weight and the radial tyres, hopefully we can continue to improve.

got it back together went out on wednesday for testing and the alternator gave up on it, back out this saturday and test again,no new housing yet, might put some .82 on before the shoot out

sweet as, shootout here in Sydney, the one coming up? or QLD?

should definitely pickup everywhere with a bigger housing, your pulling alot more power out of the .6's than we ever could, we couldn't get more than 27psi and the thing seemed to choke in the deep end was lot of backpressuure, think it ran a best of 8.34@164 with them. the 1.06 made a big difference seems to breathe alot better now.

be sure to keep us posted, if not here, then on facebook, hopefully you will report back with a 7-sec timeslip. good luck!

sydney next weekend

great stuff, i just saw your name in the list for next weekend. told Joe he said ''mad'' :) we can show the old dinosaur engined boys what the little DOHC V8's can do :p will be good to catch up and see the car in the flesh. hopefully the schedule will allow us to get to see the car run.

James, would you be up for a Grudge race with us? i'm trying to see if the APSA boys put x275 and Outlaw Radial together. i reckon a few 1UZ fans would get a bit of a hardon seeing 2 of the quickest 1UZ street cars in the country have a bash down the track together ;)

Hell YEA...
Take it easy...[Like that's going to happen ???]
Love the beast..
As Jay said ..

it may be more reality than you think, unfortunately x275 is not getting the showing like it did in QLD, funny thing of the 5 cars entered in x275, 4 are making the trip down from QLD, we are the only ones repping NSW :p because of this Mod Street Blown, Outlaw Radial and x275 may be thrown in together, even if it's just the 3 qualifiers, can have at least 1 pass together, although we will lose will still be some fun ;)

nothing wrong with leaf springs :p 1.33 60' on a 3200lb+ car can't be wrong. been consistent also, apart from the wasted pass did a 1.46 60' everything else was in the 1.3's, the car has been pretty good in the 60' and the 4 full track passes have all been within 1 n a half 10ths. we need to get the new turbo's, wastegate springs happening :D need more than 30psi now

Aha na just Quoting what Jay Leno said about a Ford Coupe...Eric Bana's car...

I'm surprised your that heavy...
A stripped out E series Falcon weighs 3333Lb with cage..
9" etc adds up...Motor and Powerglide are lightweight for there power levels too...

yes mate i would be up for a grudge run with joe, had good time at the track tonight, put the radials back on, the car went 7.988 at 173mph and backed it up with a 7.925 at 176mph. very happy with that

Congratulations and well done James from both me n Joe. Told Joe his exact words were 'fuck me that's mad haha. Wot 60' time n how much boost? U wood have to be pumping 1300hp or so now.

what an absolutely fantastic meet the other week. those that were at Sydney Dragway would have experienced some of the best Pro Street racing in Australia.

we had an absolute blast, the atmosphere and people were just fantastic.

we got 6 passes in total.

1st pass - 8.41@163
2nd pass - 8.40@163
3rd pass - 8.40@163

qualifiers over, we ended up being the Top Qualifier for x275

racing now starts:
4th pass - 8.38@163 - had our asses handed 2 us by a 400ci twin turbo VL it ran a 7.9@169 :D

4 passes within 3/100ths of a seconds on a 275 radial tyre i believe is an achievement in itself, there are full chassis, big slicked cars that have trouble doing that.

then we had a burndown, car was on the transbrake for over 20-seconds which is not a good thing :p, it came down close to the wire, the other guy cut a .007 light, Joe was 3/10's slower. had he cut a light only 1/10 better he would have just got him in the deep end. but, we learnt from our mistakes and will know better next time, on that pass the car ran a 8.69@159 with a box of boiling hot burnt gearbox oil.

we went out about 45mins later to check the box and have our final pass, even with the hot burnt oil she ran a 8.48@162. so at the end of the day we had 5 passes within 1/10th of each other ;)

video of the passes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmJ89ujoLVM

from the stand http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wsDaSrYSsk

did one on the tyres, including slo-mo pass, which looks pretty cool http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78VGsmQry7Q

thought i would put up a couple quick logs so you can see what we have been playing with and how the converter has been the past few meets. the first log is from a test n tune on the 18/11/2011 (ran 8.30@167), the one below that is from the street meet on the 9th of this month when the car ran a 8.37@164 radial PB.

as you can see on the first log, the converter locks up and is pulling for 500-600rpm till the end, but, on the other log, the converter looks as though it's slipping and not locking up. it looks like a flat line and the rpm only picks up about 100rpm. we shift at the 330' mark, so the car only revs 100-200rpm in that 1000ft, when it really should be pulling/revving 500-600rpm :doh what is quite shocking is the car has been running so consistent and fast, however, it hasn't been running efficiently. makes ya sorta think if the converter was working 100% what sorta times we'd be doing. we hope this is what was holding the car back, and after it's fixed we see much better times.

also James and crew was a pleasure meeting and chatting with you guys. unfortunately we didn't get to race as we were a bit worried about the box. but, we will be racing in Outlaw Radial/MSB next time out, so will be able to have a few runs together.

for those that don't know James, he has the TT 1UZ Hilux, he ran a few PB's down in Sydney 7.8's@177mph.

we pulled the motor out yesterday and are doing a freshen up, its been 4.5 years, 40000km street driving, 120 dyno runs and 350 1/4 mile passes, engine spins to 8000-8200rpm so far all looks good, will keep updated with more pics

the motor still uses alot of the factory bits like the belt, valves, flexplate, oil pump, balancer etc it's testament to just how well these motors hold up
