Twin Turbo 1UZ 1970 Ford Capri street/strip car

The 1UZFE EGR Delete Kit is available for sale here.
so it begins! assembly started, be good to see what 10-10.5:1 CR CP Pistons, PTC Converter and Boost Leash Boost Controller do to this thing, if it picks up and makes the same power on less boost, is more responsive and runs the same or a little quicker over the 1/4, then we will be happy as fuck!

got a pic from Norm @ Northmead Auto Centre the other day letting us know how cute the pistons were. they barely fit in his piston holder. he is usually building tough Big Block engines, he has been doing a few smaller cube DOHC motor's now, they are slowly growing on him.

the bottom end is together, Norm was very happy with the machining done by C&B @ Seven Hills, he is very fussy and everything was within spec across the mains and cylinders. the oil pump gears were still in good shape, but, a new pump rebuild kit was bought and everything swapped out for new.

just about done, heads need to be screwed down. had a little issue with the 1/2'' head stud nut hitting on the cam gear, we thought it might get away with not recessing the head, but, didn't work out like that. if u take the washer off it just misses, but, we prefer to run with the washer and go 4-6mm down. couldn't get the .040'' thick gasket, so we just ran with the Cometic 5-layer 89.5mm .051'' gaskets, leaves comp @ 10.9:1

the motor is back home and ready to put back in the car, bit of a slow process bolting everything back on, but, there was a couple little cosmetic things that Joe wanted to change before we dropped it back in.

the homemade turbo manifolds done by John Geri, might look a lil funny but they work excellent

ash, would be a nugget on the street with that MI :p

PTC converter, we are excited to try, have had 4-5 guys we know test 1 in the last 6 months and they all say the car has completely changed, feels different and alot better. bolt together be good, n not expensive but weld together was decision.

turbo backpressure done, just a 1/8 NPT, welded with 1mm hole to keep pulsing down, 50cm of tube n TI 5-bar sensor

motor fitted back in, Joe will put intake pipes etc back on during week for startup this weekend finally. over to Vince Rigoli's sometime next week for tuning, maybe do a Wednesday Race 4 Real in preparation for Jambo Sydney mid March, not expecting anything huge to change, basically same combo just more comp

pretty much all in, just need to put the radiator in, cranking her over on the starter motor, oil pressure came up within 5-secs got it up to about 50psi (70-80psi on idle), was good to start up, lil bit of Start Ya Bastard as it's on the E98 and she started up instantly, had a little leak on the turbo was dripping some oil got a little smokey toward the end. but, main thing it started and oil pressure is there, doesn't sound too bad either, think it sounds meaner than before, though could just be cos we haven't heard it for a while. Joe is extremely happy, will be going down to V&E Rigoli this weekend and hopefully get her out the following for a bit of testing.

Joe took the Capri in for a tune on Saturday, a nice drive in the rain to V&E Rigoli on a set of almost worn M/T ET Streets proved uneventful, i thought it would be all over the place around corners and roundabouts but it drove there without any problems.

that's where it ended, tuning down low with no boost, motor felt alot stronger, it punched out 270rwhp@5500rpm, after that Vince decided it was time to now tune with boost, then the surge tank pump decided to shit itself, the BG 220 had a good life, nearly 10 years, seems to have overheated and fused to itself inside. no spare pump meant tuning will be finished off this weekend.
