you can still see the hone marks on the bores, the rings have barely worn

hard to believe piston pins this thin could withstand 1200hp and years of punishment

still only using 10mm head studs. 100's of passes @ 30psi and they have done a fantastic job. the torque was checked a year ago, they hadn't budged

the plans are a whole bottom end freshen up with new rods and pistons. although they are still in good nick, should be replaced. we are replacing the 8:1 Ross Pistons with a 10.5:1 CP Piston and sticking with Argo for the rods, hopefully the bump in comp, we might see a 30-50hp increase in HP. the block is being torque plate honed and we have drilled it out for bigger headstuds, although we haven't seen any major issues with the heads lifting, we are still going to change them out. in the last 6 months if we ran the car without cooling it enough, the heads would lift a little, pushing a little water out the radiator, before then it was never an issue, after 3.5 years of copping the abuse, the studs would have got a little weak.

Thoughts on oil squirters to pull piston temps down?

i don't believe it's needed, i know with the modulars oil squirters are blocked. if temps are getting that bad then i would look at the tune or water/meth injection. water does a good job of cooling down in there.

Hmmm interesting, don't intend on spinning mine hard, so oil mass and windage not so much of an issue, not sure on how much of an intercooler I can fit under the blower so i'm thinking squirters might be good in my application...

what fuel will u be running? how much boost? what will it be used for?

Be interesting with higher comp !! Cylinder pressures will be higher .

yeah, for sure, it gets scary now. we are going with a 88.25mm piston so as to save as much meat as possible on the sleeves. i know some guys have went 88.5mm but anything 20-thou over bore i believe for a combo like this might be a little too much, will see what happens. i don't think we will see much of a hp gain with the CR bump on this combo. with the addition of billet turbo's, new intercooler and 1mm OS valves on the new setup will see a good hp increase.

98, 20, street and circuit

give the squirters a go, you might drop a little oil pressure. how big is the sump? i'd be inclined to do some baffling, bigger sump (possibly) and add an oil accumulator for circuit. i personally think you will be alright with a 50/50 water meth injection, this would be the cheapest option.

Yeah I got bigger pump gears with modded sump and an accumulator on the to-do list...

water injection will also be happening, no meth as it's impractical for a car that will do long trips

sounds like u got it all sorted. will be a good stout build.

spool do a set of rods and ross pistons for a good price... where is all your used stuff going?

i saw that, it's even cheaper thru Tuff Parts http://www.tuffcarparts.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=731

the Spool might be ok for your combo, i don't know any 1UZ guys running them, so no idea on how they will hold up.

the old stuff in the car is just going to storage somewhere, the rods and pistons are ok, but, i dunno if i would sell it to anyone, it could go forever or it could break straight away, they had a hard life.

new CP pistons have arrived, machining and assembly can now start on the engine....

as you can see, pretty standard fare for this engine, just the accumulator groove on the 2nd ringland the only extra, just to help with blow-by and a lil piston flutter.

looks pretty good, should show around 10.2-10.5:1 CR, went for 88.25mm (3.474'' .0035 PTW) on the bore, off the shelf you can get 88mm and 88.5mm, we decided to split the difference and save a lil meat.

.200'' 9310 wrist pin, much thicker than the old one, i'm not a huge fan of 9310 material.

measured up all the pistons today, everything meausred up near on perfectly, was .0002''-.0006'' discrepancy from the numbers on the spec sheet (most around .0002''-.0004''), spec sheet says the size is 3.4709'' at gauge point, 6/10000ths of an inch, that could just be coming down to human error. at the moment i believe the bores measured 3.471'', C&B Performance (the machinists) measured it all up and were confident it would only need a couple thou machining, so we left it very close, the bore diameter specified by CP is 3.4744''

little update, machining is all done, and the heads are being put together as we speak. assembly on the bottom end may start this week, if not will be next. looking forward to seeing how the combo responds to the bump in comp and new PTC converter.

also putting in some sensors for backpressure, we aren't sure if the turbo's are out of puff or we are seeing a restriction which may be causing us to not make anymore power (maybe wastegating is opening), it's showing around 1200hp @ the motor with the GT35R's and T3 1.06 A/R exhaust housings.

Pyramid of Goza exhaust manifolds, took the brother all of 1 day to make n they look a lil funny but they have been working quite well

as the current build is finishing up, the new one is progressing, the new heads like the old will be ported by Jake @ Bain Racing, we are going with a high port (port is welded in spots then re-shaped) this really opens up the head, which has proven to be a winning combo with a previous combo Jake and our engine builder did a while ago, figures saw [email protected]'' with 1mm oversize valves. some progress pics. this is just rough at the moment is a looooong way to go
