A lot of people are talking about twin turbo 1uz's, i am one of them, but what turbos are people using. I know it all depends on use of car, how much lag is too much, how much power you want to make, ............ but what are people on here using. I was planning to use the T3 roller bearing turobs off an RB25. Hopefully i will get a pair off a neo 6 engine, but any r33 turbos will do. What else is being used, or suggested and why.

i'm thinking GT28RS or GT30R at the moment...the GT28RS's will spool quickly and have a great powerband, not sure exactly when the GT30R's will spool but it will have a lot of top end power. Anything larger i dont think is worth it.

A couple of T3's should do an OK job, keep in mind the R33 turbo's use ceramic exhaust wheels and dont like running a lot of boost

I think for the budget minded person wanting to turbo a 1uz, I've seen some at importers for as cheap as $400, definatly the R33 turbos are the go, quick spooling and should handle decent HP (I belive around 300rwkw) and like you said dont go boosting them over 14psi. Would I be correct in saying the Neo 6 turbo is steel wheel? Or have I got my wires crossed with the R34 GTR turbos?

A pair of WRX turbos are another option, STI spec would be better. Or how about some VG30DET turbos?? RX7 S4 turbo, although the turbine A/R may be a little average?? There are a fair few 2L-3L turbo cars out there willing to give up a turbo just need to find a matched pair.

Would be good for someone with a fair bit of turbo knowledge to look at the specs of a few of these factory turbos to see what they can offer, would make a nice budget setup and when one blows just get another from a junkyard/wrecker. But gotta agree with poid and lex, a pair of GT28R or GT30R would be sweet!!!

I put 2 vg30 turbos on my 1uz and I am happy

I have 9 psi @ 2800 and it starts to boost at 2000 rpm

I HAVE 2X TO4Es ON MINE.THERE JUST BUSH TYPS BUT THAY WORK FINE.THAY ONLY COST ME $400AUS NEW AND ARE RATED TO 35psi.I HAVE 450hp+ ON A GOOD TUNE(12psi).

yeh the WRX turbo's could be had for quite cheap, as people often replace them. They may be a little on the small side though, as most WRX owners seem to upgrade them pretty quickly. STi ones would be good, so would a pair of Evo turbo's

Problem with evo turbos ( evo 7 or 8 ) is they spin in the opposite direction, and i dont think any companies to hi-flow versions for them, or do repairs, so if you blow a turbo, you have to buy another. I like the T3 idea from rb25 as they are extremely common, and there is a lot of upgrade parts for them.

yeh i was thinking older evo turbo's, since they are less expensive and should be easier to find (as long as they are in OK condition). As for what direction they spin, it really doesnt matter (as long as you have enough room to be able to fiddle with their placement!).

Even a pair of t28's from the s14's, or even better s15's, should be OK...i know the s15 turbo's can support 200rwkw which isnt too shabby...the *** spec s15 turbo is BB and similar to a GT28R but older tech

a pair of makkinen 6.5 turbo's would be awesome.... hell expensive though....

those thing spool like crazy.... i went for a ride in my mate's 6.5 and it litterally had no lag... and he was running 1.5 bar off it... which is ok according to all the reputable mags and workshops....

can you say TITANIUM???? and you wonder why they're expensive, hehe

yeh i've driven a mate's Makkinen, talk about an insane car...i was taking it easy, or i thought i was! The turbo spools so smooth that i didnt realise how quickly thing accelerated and suddenly found myself negotiating a hair-pin at like 100km/h lol

i have heard of some evo turbo's being around $1500 new, so would imagine second hand there may be some bargains

$1500 new would certainly not be the titanium one.. i can pretty much gurantee you on that..... for a replacement, i wouldnt be surprised with a 4-5k price for oem..... heck, it's custom made for the makkinen..... it honestly is the most responsive and smooth boosting factory turbo car i have ever been in....

no no, thats definitely not for the titanium turbos! But for the normal non-race ones that float around (the makkinen really got all the good bits in it that evo's normally dont have here)

in that case, i think they're equivalent to td04's then.... pretty tough if it came from an evo... and a pair would work nicely....

you can get them off most 4g63 engined mitsubishi's i think (evo's, galants, possibly eclipses though we dont know anything about those as they were all RHD)....

or you could get aftermarket Trust units.... not too sure about pricing, but i know that they are not as common as your Garrett and HKS variants.

How about a pair of ct26 turbo's of a mr2 or supra?

They should handle about 300hp each.
