Hey all, have finally completed my conversion of a v8 powered bongo.
heres a list of all the mods.
Engine 89 crown 1uzfe. used factory style log headers heat wrapped. factory crown ecu. 2 and a quarter inch primary pipes into 2 hotdog resonators, merging into a 3inch pipe and a normal muffler at the back. getting clearance fot the inlet manifold was quite difficult, i ended up having to machine the traction control off the throttle body and make up a wedge where it bolts to the inlet plenum to mount the tb at an angle to clear the drivers seat. mounted the Airflow meter underneath the drivers seat in a very convinient sealed airbox. Ended up using two radiators, each with their own electric fan. Used the crown 'U2' bellhousing which helped mount the engine on a lh down lean to give clearances for the gearbox linkages down the rh side of the enging.
Gearbox is a rebuilt hiace g52 5speed hung from custom gbox mount. had to extensivly modify the gearbox linkage system to clear the headers and add a pivot to reverse the mazda-toyota push instead of pull policy. custom water cut adapter plate and cnc billet flyhweel to suit a heavy duty hilux 4x4 clutch. diff is a diesel bongo housing with a dual wheel 4.1:1 diff open center.
standard breaks all round.
Anyway i got it all certed just before xmas and took it away for newyears. clocked up 2000km in it. also realised its way too loud to do rodaies in.
also didnt check the oil regularly, which lead to it running a bearing and scoring the crank etc. so that was the end of motor no.1. have since replaced that motor with a 95 celsior version, which happily bolted striaght in despite the difference in sump positions.
mods left to do, make a sump guard up as it hangs well below the crossmember, upgrade the breaks, and get a lsd/nsd for the diff coz im tired of one wheelie peelies.
as far as im aware this is the only lexus v8 powered bongo van in nz, so please prove me wrong, or if your curious or attempting a conversion similar, im happy to answer any q's.
only pics i have available is of when i first mounted the motor, and the finished product, but ill put more pics up soon
