time has come to make my own build thread, its been underway for about a month now(turbo build) but ive owned the car for 3 years, did the r154 swap last year. im leaving a bunch out, any questions just ask. i like this site better than clublexus, even if its slower. enjoy!

moved the ac lines, and modified the rear most cyl tube on the headers to clear a 3" dp with .5" to clear in all directions.waiting on a 3"u bend from summit to finish the dp to midpipe section.

my DIY turbo brace, i have a tab on the WG dump tube flange also

ran out of daylight before i could flip the intake manny around. well as promised...pics.

86 celica throttle cable, little difference on the stop. i cut off the big rubber piece and swapped it over.

turbo manifolds all ready to pop in

had to cut the low beam off a spare headlight. ill re-aim my high beams to function as lowbeams. i used to get flashed all the time anyway with my HID low beams on, wont be anny diff with just hi beams, lol. but i have a spare headlight and a HKS mushroom style filter to put on if i need to. i like the idea of the intake being so far from the heat socked bay.

its just an SC :p, i like cutting her up. muahaha

full exhaust is done. pictured from left to right(downpipe, part of the turbo manifold is hiding, then the midpipe, and the muffler section. full 3", all mandrel bends.

now its a great day in california, i got off work early. and im so close i can taste first start up! so im out to do some work!

to do list:
extend o2's
hose clamp some shiiiz
fluids
TT sway install
new shift boot install
FULL gauge install + gotta make a custom pod
annnnd aside from the PITA rear LCA balljoint inhibiting my REAR poly bushing install thats about it! its been a FAST few months since i started.

one more with t-bolt clamps on the radiator hardlines

getting close now. Great work.
I remember my first drive when i turboed mine... Giggled like a girl... was fun

thank you! i cant wait to drive her. i actually sold my 02 wrx in order to buy my 93 sc400. at the time i thought i was down-grading, however, i fell in love with the sc right off the bat! but there was a couple things i missed about the subie: manual trans, and the turbo sounds(bov, open WG, turbo whistle). i did my r154 swap and knew soon after i needed BOOST!

edit** forgot to add what i did today

pulled out the gauges, decided on a final layout. and im making a custom aluminum pod out of some left over sheetmetal. the aluminum looked rad but it wont match my interior. so im debating on carbon fiber wrapping it or painting it black. i have wideband/boost on the steering column, and in my dash pod i mounted oil temp/oil psi with a digital water temp stacked on top of the turbotimer since these 2 are rectangular. ill post some pics monday or tuesday if i get to work on it at all.

well went in for the start up today and i got a fuel leak. traced it down to the o-rings and grommets. gonna buy new ones and try again. i didnt crank it, just leak tested.

nowwwwwww since i gotta pull the fuel rails again and change out the o-rings i was thinking of popping in my 315cc injectors. should i just disconnect the cold start injector plug? or should i keep the oem injectors in until i get something better than a belltech adjustable rising rate FMU?

well no fuel leaks after new injector install. i started her up tonight. my fuel gauge thats on my fmu said 2-5psi. not the 40psi it needs to be at idle. guessing its either the fuel pump or the fmu.

i guess ill keep on trouble shooting myself, since no one on the forums has ANY input on this shit. pretty frustrating.

I'm following along on the build, I'm just no help on trouble shooting (still going through my first 1uz build myself). Best of luck on sorting it out.

glad to hear someones out there! im trying to diagnose it with the help of stevechumo on here, and a few ppl on SF.

still thinking possibly a -4an return line from the fpr to the fmu might be too small? my aeroquip -4an feed for the turbo seems A LOT bigger than this -4 braided line i had as a spare... or my fmu is just the main culprit. ill be able to fully count it out after the new BEGI rebuld kit gets here.

That's good news!

Nice to see your progress and look forward to your driving report.

With the fabrication work you show I would suggest at some point building a turbo side exhaust manifold to get rid of that fast 180 you have. Until then what you have will certainly make some power.

Couple issues, oil in my charge pipe/blue smoke=bad turbo. Rebuild kit on the way.

Idle-4/500rpm dipping low and barely staying running on first start up. But once the car is warm and I'm driving if I let off the gas the rpms drop and it dies.

MAF is unplugged, I think extending the wires messed with the resistance(it was known working before turbo) runs with NO hesitation with it unplugged, however plugged in it will not drive/rev.

Another note is I think my oil psi is way too high. 90+psi at wot.

A/f's seem good 11.5/12 thru out a pull.

I couldn't see extending the MAF wiring affecting resistance unless you used way undersized cable and even then it doesn't carry much current.

90+psi isn't too high in a UZ.

My well worn engine will still wind the oil gauge off the clock when revved.

i used one size LARGER then stock wiring for the MAF, maybe in the process of turboing my car my MAF took a shit? lol. runs good w/o the MAF connected. ok cool i wasnt sure the psi that 1uz puts out. however it was too much for my holset w/o a restrictor(new rebuild kit in the mail) =( oh well live and learn.

i messed with my throttle stop adjuster and now it seems ok.

i really need an alignment. gonna hit the firestone and get a lifetime alignment. so when i eventually get aftermarket suspension or build my own i can just get it re-aligned free. =]

one thing i must say. i F**KING LOVE my external wastegate! it sounds so nasty in boost.

thanks for the reply!

not sure.

but on a side note i got my oil restrictor. its a .073. took away smoke at idle. but at higher rpm it still puffs. allllllso got my turbo rebuild kit. so ill be pulling it out to rebuild it here next week. holy crap this thing is beasty. gave a buddy a ride and he was death gripping the door panel. im so happy my dreams are now a reality and i was able to manifest them single handedly into a reality. feels good! even though theres bugs to work out that pullllll is worth all the effort.

the 3.92's are WAY to short now, as soon as boost hits im on the limiter. good thing this 98+ GS400 diff and a supra TT auto lsd are sitting next to me. the 3.26 combo'd with the lsd should make it a lot more manageable. in addition to an alignment. =]

P.S. if anyone has an instagram account seach "#sc400turbo" most of the posts are all mine.

Ordered all my parts for a 25row oil cooler, rebuilding the turbo, gonna prep my body kit for paint, and I've also been sanding my carbon fiber trunk/hood in prep for clear. Still need a damn alignment and to get my lsd installed into my gs400 diff

Well hey cl! It's been a while, new job, new house. But I'm back.

I got my sc400-T up and running. After a blown turbo, and a lil tweaking here and there I've finally driven her a few times. And it's awesome. I'm seemingly having oil temp issues however. I installed a huge oil cooler along with a oil filter relocation kit to try and alleviate the issue. Haven't put any highway miles on, but in stop and go street driving the analog autometer oil temp gauge reads 250*. I'm thinking it could be a couple issues, either I bought the incorrect sending unit for the gauge, the gauge is faulty, or I need an electric fan to cool my external cooler(highway driving would cool it better)

Another issue is the koyo radiator I had purchased I can't seem to get the correct cap for. Every stant cap I've got for it does NOT seal off the overflow tube. Soooo, when it builds pressure it pushes it into my overflow. And since my sc300 overflow has the drain/vent on the cap it just pushes out.

I'm in serious need of my LSD/3.26 pumpkin installed along with an alignment.

On another note my aem wideband reads 15/14.9/14.8/14.7 and never changes to any other ratio, getting a p008/p006 error code. It worked perfectly fine in my honda, prior to installing it in the lexus.
