Hi All.
Well i like forced induction, it makes heaps of power and is sometimes even cheeper then NA.
But i love NA, i belief its an art, and it sounds so good.
I am also a big fan of Nitrous Oxide, it gives great bag for the buck, and if it is switched off you motor is stil standard.

My question is: Are there any of you that has a 1uz with nitrous?
How much nitrous do you think a std 1uz can handle?

I`m putting a 1uz in a small light body (mk1 escort), thus forced induction will do me no good, cant put the power down.
I`m thinking of going NA, hoping for 250-280Kw on the fly, for road and track use. And addin 100Kw nitrous and a set of wide stickey rears fot the drag strip. Then i can enjoy the best of boath worlds.

That's cruel Rod ;)

BTW 280kw at the fly n/a will be a challenge without major mods and 100kw nitrous on top would have your engine the strongest n/a UZ i know of :)

Hey justen.

Yes i would be quite a challange, but i believe it`s possible. Its the road less travelld, not a lot of info avalible on NA setups on 1uz.

If you look at it this way, the std motor makes +- 190kw, with proper setup i think it would take 100kw nitrous safely. Something like a 8 fogger progressive system. Then you have just about 300kw, no mess mo fuss.

Jaco,

What transmission are you going to feed 300kw through?

The A34* won't like it without major surgery.

There's also heaps of information on N/A 1UZ's here you just need to search.

300 kw = 402 hp. This is flywheel hp. It's possible but you're really pushing it. However, supercharging or turbocharging can bring the car to 500 hp or 372 kw safely.

Hi all

Rod - I were thinking of the box that comes with the 7m turbo motor, don`t know if the box from the NA 7m is going to take it. the body is light though.
What do recomend?

Stevechumo- if it can take 300kw + supercharged safley, the same power with nitrous should work safley. The thing is nitrous takes you a weekend to install, supercharging is a big operation.
Klong- Is the rest of your motor standard? ecu exhaust ect.?
How is your system activated, throttle, button, computer?

The manual will handle it as you more inclined to lose traction before you break tooo much.

What will you do when the nitrous bottle is empty? At least with a blower it keeps on giving boost!

Honestly I would look at a single turbo as a light weight solution. If you choose well you can have a good bottom end power with a decent top end.

Everything is standard except a supra LSD diff. Activated by a button, I haven't even got a WOT switch as its for drag use and am only at WOT. 10lb bottle at 100hp lasts less than 10 minutes.

Only done one day at the track since fitting. Running with bottle at half pressure it ran 14.4 rather than its usual 15.2. At full pressure it should be in the 13s

In my case the nos is planned just for a extra power boost for drags, but yes, nos is more for the weekend racer than everyday street power.

Turbo power will be to much for my application, wont get the power down for the circuit. And it will be a good thing to get rid of some bottom end power to limit traction problems.

But i tend to agree, for everyday performance you can`t beat a turbo setup.

With the right turbo or supercharger setup, it'll do anything you'd need for track, traction, or daily driving. The NOS might be economical when you first use it, but it'll eventually cost the same as the turbo/supercharger in the long run. Filling a bottle per week isn't cheap these days. Mulitiply by 4 for a month, it'll be around $240 USD. It'll be around $3200 USD for a year.

Jip with some calculations experiance tuning and boost control i recon it will be possibale, bus space is also a major concern, fitting the 1u will be a mission in itself.
And in our well develloped 3rd world country, there is onley one drag meeting a month, at best, and big events is about 6 for the year.

The auto or trans will be fine in a 900 kg Escort.
Best to have wet system, Colder plugs and a few degree retarded timing..
On another brand a 4.0, 6 3330kg went 13.2.. Where n/a it run 15.s..
I assume a V8 same size would be better esp in a sub 1000 kg car..
Try fitting a 2 step and stage your n20 to get power down..
Some mods to rear suspension helps.. Radius rod etc..
I find with high power a mini spool is best!!
LSD's still tend to give up. Trouble keeping straight up the top end..

Hi there, what do you mean by 2 step? I have heard of the term, but do not really know what it is, can you please explain.
I have a computerized system that can give me a stage for every gear, and can come in progressively with rpm.
I`m planning to build a 3link or 4link with pannard rod. what is your opinion on this? Also can you explain "mini spool"
Thanx for your input
Jaco

Two step is a launch control .. It's lower rpm limiter so you don't smoke the tyres, or over rev at the lights.. GREAT for turbo's..

A mini spool is a steel piece that replaces the hemisphere in your diff.. making it a solid axle.. No differential between wheels..
It's essentially a locked diff!!

Google mini spool...

What model Escort ??
Ahh Mk 1 .. With elliptic springs.. Just a good tramp rod and panhard rod..
I made a tramp rod from centre of axle, under spring plate with two brackets, rod attached to just inside front spring bolt so geometry is same as spring.. About 100mm under spring and parallel to it..
Mount the shocks vertical and strengthen..

My ecu has functiion for launch rev limmiter, Mini spool can be great for drag racing, but how will it behave on the track? Yes it stil has leave springs, fitted with slapper bars, no pannard rod, traction not to bad, but road holding leaves much for the imagination.

Have you had any sucsess in modifing the auwful 1uz heads? Going NA this is my bigest concern.
