How do you read the distributor to cylinder?

On the older carb'd engines when starting from scratch I would use a timing light, locate top dead center and twist the distributer slightly til I got it just right and dialed in.. The firing order better be right also...Occasionally when removing the distributor I would reinstall it 180 degrees backwards and that would set me back half a day wondering what the heck is wrong.....

Old school baby!!!!!! The good ole days of SBC, Accell distributers, Holley Carb's, and Edelbrock intake manifolds....
