Well now if we are all talking about older 70's and 80's cars then I would purchase the big block engines for building up power. A few that come to mind for a cheap price is the 1976 Chevy Caprice with the 7.4 liter 454 big block engine.. all the older SS models, so many to name from..Nova SS, Impala's, Trans AM, etc..there is too many to name.... Carb'd big block motors are just plain nasty for power building, no matter how much the car weighs, you can still move it with that big power plant of an engine. Especially after build up with maybe a Paxton Super Charger or Blower.......May be able to pull that off for under 10 grand...Just a thought...

is this a daily driver?

anyway, i drove my first big block this last weekend. Although it was in a 1970 suburban i thought it was a sweet ride, very torquey. The lady said it was a 440, but i have no idea of chevy even made that displacement. She was a hipster from New York (which have been drawn to my far west texas home turf because of the art scene) so i question her knowledge of engines. Anyway, really cool for letting me drive it and yeah, big block feel good, but with gas the way it is, forget it.

As far as newer cars go I would say the best bang for the buck may be the-

2007 Ford Shelby Cobra GT500 for $48,000... Boosting 500bhp and does 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 155mph..

The next most inexpensive new sportscar that can outperform the GT500 would be the Corvette Z07 for $98,000...

a normal c6 vet runs the 1/4 in about the same as the gt500 at about the same price.zo6 runs high 11,s for about 75,000 the zr1 is 100,000 and should run 11 flat

My boosted SC400 with the future 12 psi should also run in the mid 4 sec for 0-60 and the mid 12 for 1/4 mile. I'm currently running 6 psi in the mid 5 for 0-60, and mid 13 for 1/4 mile. Cost? huh...$12K from bumper to bumper. Style...It's a Lexus style...LOL.

Well Steve if we are to go there then I must say my SC400 does run in the low 4's 0-60mph right now... My car cost me $8000 + $12,000 more in restoration and mods... $20,000 bumber to bumber in Lexus style....
