Bored last night scanning forums and cam across this 1-off AWD supra, that was based on an SC400 first. The turbo is obscene but well worth it. No 2jz in here either... 1FZFE 4.5L from a Landcruiser running CNP's and full dry sump. What do you all think? Seems like a good effort towards AWD awhp record?

At first glance it looks like they are using a BMW center diff + BMW front diff and drive shafts on a custom ( CNC'd ) sump.

Wonder if they didn't find a smaller turbo...

Wow, lot more going on there than one would suspect.

I would have tried different turbo packaging including a smaller diameter compressor with a front, mid, low or rear mount option and or twins.

Wonder what it can do?

Since some people don't really know or trust about the wheel spacers that can hold up to any hp that you throw at them, I'd like to point out that this killer Supra uses the wheel spacers that I used. This is the spacer that I recommend using. It's machined to sit snuggly on the spindle and squarely around the wheel studs. There's no vibration whatsoever. It also has the outer lip that fits tightly inside the wheel. So the weight and torque of the car don't rest on wheel studs, but they rest on the spacers and then are transferred to the spindle. Basically, the wheel rests on the spindle just like 1 piece. These spacers are specifically made for the specific cars.

I think this Supra uses ARP wheel studs.

Im absolutely convinced they could have found a larger turbo.

that one is TINY!!! not allot of the original subframe's left in there.
madness.

yeah... no

load goes through the lugs no matter what. hub centricity simply allows for accurate locating prior to torquing, and ensures proper balancing. near zero load should be taken by the centre shoulder. funny how plastic locating adapters dont get pulverized

I slammed mine into a curb full on at 75mph and all the suspension was trashed.. wheels trashed... everythign trashed and the damn wheel studs with my cheap $10 die cast aluminum 1/4'' spacers never cause issues. No hubcentric stuff. I think it's sort of a gimmick.

as for the supra I read a few times that it puts down 1800hp, dunno if thats AWHP or crank.

I would love to see some videos of this baby running at the track. Plus love to hear it running. Nice custom work. All wheel, sweet.

A few bucks definitely went into this build......

am I the only one who is thinking 'why' and 'over the top' and 'stupid'?
I like the custom work but the car looks bad with that big turbo outside the hood and all together I really ask why would you do this?

This wan't a cosmetic chime-in but as you can tell in the 1st pic the supra is rocking a chute... not very street oriented. It's a drag monster, AWD for instant hookup and a large displacement 4.5L I-6 to overcome the lack or torque on a standard stroker 3.4. When I see funny cars I don't assume it needs to look "streamlined" and "cool" it's all about performance and cosmetics take a back seat every time. Frankly i'm shocked to even see a hood, the top of the valve cover w/o the massive Borg Warner still hits the hood. When your building something of this magnitide it's based on a single purpose... to go fast in a straight line, not for crowd attention, but IMO it's already done that :)

I'm trying to get a Borg Warner S375 into a [1uz] Celica under the hood / bonnet... It's not easy ..But can be done..It's not a registered vehicle either..
Yes definitely function over aesthetics...

You're right at this point. I forgot about the plastic spigot rings that help center the wheel to the wheel studs and that means the studs take the load as well. But if looking closely at the wheel lug holes, the holes are larger than the studs so the studs won't have 100% load on them. The load is distributed by the both the spindle and the studs. But it's hard to tell how much each part takes the load.

the nuts are tapered, they wedge, centralise the lug, and take ALL the load ;)

actually, thats not 100% correct, what i mean to say is the nuts are tapered, they wedge, centralise the lug, and take ALL the load off the central locating shoulder

the actual 'load' of the vehicles weight and tourque delivery to drive the wheel should all go through the friction mating surface of the wheel to the hub face

Ok Gents,

Deleting some posts due to unrelated topics. Can we keep conversation within topic? or we really have to proof to the world how smart we really are?

I initially thought this was insane after hearing it was first done with an SC300 and thats what drew me in. Could you imagine someone building an AWD conversion kit for sale? High price yes but it would enstill fear into every Evo/STI/Skyline owner knowing that the car sitting next to them was AWD and still pounding out 3x the power :)

I say bring the ugliness....

ten points for originality and build quality (suspension - wow)... but i dont get the reasons for some parts of that build... That engine plus the front driveline would have made that supra pretty nose heavy, it will already be more inclined to understeer with awd, plus more weight forward... i'd doubt its any quicker around a track than a well set up rwd supra with similar power... Also I dont think the turbo is actually as big as it looks either, huge housings tho, especially compressor - why?

If its just intended to break an awd drag record i kinda get it tho - those FZ engines sure can make power
