Madmount does that mean I could buy an auto surf with a 340 and just bolt the 1uz up to it using the 1uz housing. Does the 340 in the surf have the extra clutches that the 340 for the 1UZ has?
The a340 in the surf has less clutches than the 1uz version and being an almost identical case will bolt up to the bell housing. The a341 transmission has a taller first gear than the a340 and I would expect the torque convertors to be different stall speeds between the various motors
So it looks like the best idea is the a341 onto the transfer. I'm assuming by what I have read that the output shaft has to be changed/shortened on the a341 is it alright to just cut the shaft short as opposed to changing it? Then I also have to adapt the speed sensors? Or if I cut the shaft on the a341 will they then still fit on it?
I have an address on someone doing this with a Soarer box (same box different car) at work. I;ll try to remeber to post it tomorrow. It's a job you can do yourself if your adventurous.
I am adventurous but that can sometimes land me in trouble. Anyway it sounds like the only way to go. I'm still having fun understanding the speed sensors. i.e wich ones are on the surf auto and which ones are on the soarer and what needs to be put where. I can make signal convertors out of pic micros if needs be. e.g. Converting a 1 prong signal to a 4 prong signal. I'm re-reading the "verifying auto trans types and uses" post to work it out.
OK for swapping the shaft but as I understand it the surf and soarer boxes have different speed sensors and the soarer auto would need the soarer sensors from its shaft hybrided onto the surf shaft. I understand this from the "verifying auto trans types and uses" post by MacroP.
Thats sounding good. I like it. I just read somewhere that the td surf has a a343 which is quite a tough box. So this could be easier than I thoight. Sweet. Thanks Sideshow. Hopefully you're spot on. I definately want the surf. The one with the Recaro interior and sunroof would be nice.
