94 SC400 Misc. Repair

The 1UZFE EGR Delete Kit is available for sale here.
Ok so jacked up the front end of the car so that I had some space to look under the drivers side fender and I saw wires ripped apart, missing sheething, bailing wire holding it up, duct tape. Just a mess. Found these to sockets just hanging out. Do they go into that connector in the rear of the pic?

Here are the wires along the length of the fender.

Now to figure out to get that all taken care of. If Friday is warm enough I will start it when I get off of work.

Ouch! Well on the bright side you found te root of the problem. I'll be honest, an electricial specialist will cost you a lot more than you need to spend. If you can solder wires and heat shrink, just do 1 wire at a time until all the problems are gone. The 2 wires under the car are a little too hard to say given the picture but it does have 2 crimped pins which means it was yanked out of it's connector. Follow the wire and try to find the route it took under the car and it if that plugs is the one, it should be within an inch length of the 2 pins. Does the "plug" have both make and female ends still atached w/o any wires? If so just install them back in.

Just curious but did the previous owner have large 20" wheels before you bought it? I have 19's and I have a mild case of wire rub like you do... 20's + pot holes = dead loom! It really is in a bad spot, OEM speaking.

It looks terrible. No wonder you keep having electrical issues over and over again. But you found the root of it, otherwise, it'll take years to sort them out and will never end. The good news is the short cicuits didn't fry your car. Like Shawn mentioned, just do 1 wire at at time & use heat shrink tubes.

Yeah that wiring fix is no issue. I do that for a living. Work at Lockheed Martin. I just have to grab some extra wire, preferably the same color/ strip pattern. Now I now where the problem is. I have no idea about tire size. My guess is no, cause the tires I replaced were bald as hell. Meaning the steel belts were hanging out. Previous owner did heat up the front coils so it sits really low. I just want to correct the issue to prevent any further damage and get it back into good working order. At least till my swap time. Explains why I had more problems with water and snow. Water on the wires and snow cause of the bumps and the water.

Ok, went out there today and ripped apart the covering and the multi layers of duck tape. Spliced in good wiring where it was ripped apart and then fixed a few wires that were improperly repaired from the previous owner. And then I took some zip ties and pulled the harness up as far as it could go. But it looks like I will need to cut and bend a piece of steel up in there and weld it up, due to the fact that there is no space up there and I'm thinking that the tire could rub the harness again.

Ok took a trip up to Denver, got some interstate run time in. The miss at 2000 rpms. is also from 2800 to 3000. And then again at about 3500rpms. Anyone got any ideas? Crank sensor? MAF? TPS?

The distributor was when I did the timing belt and water pump. Less then 2,000 miles ago. Looked good at that time and was having the problem since I bought it. Have not checked the plugs. The wiring is alright. Not great shape but not cut up.

I replaced every component on mine until I realized my plugs were fouled. Pulled them out and they looked good... but they were toast nonetheless. Once replaced, all these hesitations/misses went away.

Sounds like the previous owner let his maintanence get behind him?

Ok. According to the previous owner, they bought the car from geico as it was in a accident. They fixed it up, but couldn't fix everything. Got bored or angry at it. Thats where I got a killer deal on it. So... I need to check the plugs. I'm out of town in Albuquerque for work. I will check that when I get back.

Thanks. I got it pretty much out of the way. At least till I tear apart the car. What part of Vegas are you from? I was born and raised. Spent 19 years there. And welcome to Lextremes!

Car has been working good till yesterday when driving home the car lost all power all dash lights went dead and wouldn't start. I could keep it running if I was getting a jump start soon as the cables came off it died. So put a good battery on it and drove home. Here in the parking lot I find that while running the car is at 12.11 volts and dropping. Shut off the car and it jumps up to 12.5. Replaced the alternator and is doing the exact same thing. I understand that the voltage regulator is internal on the alternator so what else could it be?

I think it maybe that you have bad loosen grounds.

Grounds is a possiblity I suppose. Realtes to it charging? I will check and see. I looked at the fuses and nothing looked bad. Thanks for the reply.

Forgot to check the fuse box on the drivers side kick panel. Ended up being a fuse. The was figuring out my surging problem looking like its the TPS. Checks out for a few of the connections but not with an other check. So gotta order myself one.

have u checked alternaotr wiring or fuseable links
if u replaced batt and alt and still wont run without power from another car
then its most prob wiring from alt
i dont know y everyone blames the tps

the 3 pin plug on alt

white nees to have battery 12v
red/blue needs to have 12v ign
yellow/green needs too have 11 volts when ign on and then when u ground it the charge light should come on
