Man have i been having problems with Verizon's service! Iv had to call over 15 times, and 13 of those times i would be on hold waiting and all of a sudden, the machine would say, "Im sorry but because of the unusually high call volume, we cant take your call right now, please try again later, Bye" That was a fun one to hear over and over, but anyway, i hear Cable service is not as reliable as DSL. Any thoughts, suggestions?

I have been using Verison DSL for a couple of years and have had no problems...I just had to reboot the router a few times and that was it...

What problems are experiencing with your DSL service? If you aren't able to connect to the internet but show an active connection then it is computer..If your not connected and show no active connection make sure all your operating lights are illuminating on the router..If not there is a small red button on the back of the router, just pust that button to re-set and all should work ok... Also make sure you have all those bulky DSL filters hooked up to the phone lines...

Cable is inferior, stick with DSL......

It all depends on the infrastructure of the phone lines vs the cable network in your area. They are always upgrading them. I've seen people with crappy cable internet switch to DSL with better results and vice-versa. If your connection is just "on and off" and/or slow: I recommend switching only if your service doesn't improve in a week or two. They might be upgrading lines that are affecting your service. If it doesn't get better then cable is a good option.

Generally in the larger cities DSL can be better than cable service. Usually DSL reaches further out from cities but at the outermost areas the latency will be a little slower than cable.

In Houston we originally had RoadRunner broadband via TimeWarner, which changed recently to Comcast. Service was getting bad with TW, and hasn't improved with Comcast.

Waaaaayyyy too much latency, lost connections, etc. When I'm home, I typically have to reboot the router every other day. We've been told that our area is "saturated" with subscribers.

I'll fire up IE, type in Google, hit the enter button, and sometimes wait 3-4 seconds for the page to pop up. Downloads are lightning fast, however, once they get started.

We have their "premium" 7.5 MB package and pretty basic HD digital cable service, and no premium channels, with two TIVO HDTV boxes for around $130 per month. If there was a reasonable alternative, I'd switch in a heartbeat.

In the UK, where everything typically costs double what it does in the US, my mates have Virgin cable, with a premium channel package, 9 movie channels, 20 MB Internet service, and VoIP for less than what I'm paying.

We're being royally screwed in the US by these ISP's, guys.

I think Directv and other Television satalite providers also offer up internet services in a package deal, you may want to inquire about that...

Although, I have heard that satalite internet service is slower then both DSL and Cable...
