Hi All, Im very nearly done with my V8 conversion in my Mazda Bongo/ Ford Freda. I've got some 60" side pipes to run up each sill and it must be de-cat'd as the cats dont leave enough room for my gear selector cable. Question is, do I need an X pipe or will the Lexus V8 run ok without it. Im running lexus everything straight out of the 1993 LS400 all bar the fuel pump and controller, thats handled by a bosch 044 spec pump powered from a fuel pump relay. Im happy fuelling will be ok as my injectors are only running 2% duty cycle at idle and 10% when rev'd hard. Anyway, back the exhaust. Im hoping to come off the manifolds bend 180deg forward then another 180 back along the sill. I could install an X pipe in front of the engine, but its more hassle and more pipework.

Opinions?

I ran mine for a while without any crossover and it ran fine.

An X pipe or H pipe will give you more low end torque which isn't a bad thing with the UZ.

Having 2 180degree bends in each pipe will have an effect on the performance as well.

For the good of all of us you should run the cats.
