On the bottom of the block there are two threaded studs screwed into the block that were used for attaching the sump, but have to be removed to attach the new sump and insert a longer bolt.

I've tried the 2 nut approach, 3 if I'm included, but no movement resulted. Plenty of WD40 but still nothing. I assume Loctite or similar has been used.

The last thing I want to do is break one or both so I'm looking for any simple solutions.

What happened nut wise? Did the nuts undo first?

Do you have a welder? Put a nut on the end and tack it on....?

Or even put a nut on the stud leaving some exposed thread, then mash the thread so nut can't come off. Use a breaker bar or something and crack that sucker out!

Tried the vice grips but no movement.

Two nuts on top of each other are tightened together then when you try to undo the bottom one its meant to jam harder against the top one and loosen the bolt. Alas, no movement.

No sure what a stud tool is so might go with the welding idea or another suggestion of heating the block around the stud to release the loctite.

Which way, I don't want to break either stud off.

I have this Stud extrator set, it works great.

But if you cant get those tiny studs with a vice grip you have issues.

One option is to seal the crankcase with rags or plastic and cut them off with an angle grinder.

Sounds barbaric but you won't be needing the studs so no harm if their tails remain in there.

Guts on this forum broke both off when he changed his sump years ago and as far as I know they are still in the block which is now in the possesion of XR8TT.

Success!! Went with the welding. Just as well as there was enough loctite to keep it there for ever. Very tough to undo.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
