Testing crank sensor

Can anybody tell me how to test [without Toyota diagnostics] crank and cam sensors and ignition amplifers For 1UZ 07-94 single computor model ? Thanks:wtf:

Put a multimeter across it and check for resistance.
I can't remember the exact value (check Lextreme's main pages).
But I seem to remember something in the 3k ohm range.

Some 7MGTE ones i tested this week were 160/330 ohms.


Then put the multimeter in AC Voltage mode, and crank, and it should read a small voltage.
Not sure of the range though.

To test them properly though you will need a CRO.

Thanks PeeWee Tried all that you said,no go ? worried about amplifers,what signal should come from the ECU to each ign.amp. I assume that it will be a pulse,what voltage ?, It seems to be injecting O K. and I made sure that its not over fueled. Two ign.amps. are available for a twin ECU but they have a lug that stops plugin,can I file that away ? Worried about internal wiring differances. Do you know if they are compatable ?

Just make sure the igniters are earthed.

Lots of us have fallen in that trap.

Thanks for your assistance,you guys are a great help. I would like to see the pages listed as"inspection of igniter" IG -6 etc. It may help my aching brain isolate igniter faults or other no spark problems. Your help is really appreciated,thanks Ian J.

With a code 12, I'm assuming that refers to the crank sensor, and not the cam sensors,correct?

Hi Tomorrow I will do the testing/replacement of the wiring,ECU to ignitors.You asked if I had connected the check engine light,yes I have but dont know how to read its flash rate,I do need this info.

When you short the right connector under the hood, the check engine light will flash once, pause for a couple seconds, then flash two more times before repeating the cycle. That would indicate a code 12.

Hi Guys, hooray problem solved,as Peewee suggested it had to be wiring.Two wires with damaged insulation,touching sometimes. ///////////arghhhhhh.
I need one ignition coil,does anybody have a spare that I can purchase,or tell me where to get one.
