std auto for offroad competition use?

Hi guys,

Basically I am working out whether the standard auto is up to an offroad racing application. I need manual sequential shift. I dont need options for full auto switchable this and that steering wheel controls blah, blah, etc. Its a race car. Strength and performance all that matter.

What modifications, shifters, controllers etc do I need? Also I read somewhere that there may be an engine braking issue (lack of) with the manual downshift. Is this just with certain set-ups?

Probably looking at using crown engine. Does it matter whether I go stand alone engine ecu or std computer. From what I can gather it doesnt but want to be sure.

Lastly will the auto cope with the shock loadings? I will run a big cooler and the engine will be NA not much more hp than stock, at most 300?
