Speed sensor for ECT?

The 1UZFE EGR Delete Kit is available for sale here.

Which of the two speed sensors in a crown auto does what?

I plan to adapt the A341E gearbox to a hilux transfer case and want to know which speed sensor is needed for the ECT.

For the dash speed I will use the transfer case speed sensor. I assume this will this plug straight in?

Humpy,
From information I have read the sensor opposite the speedo drive is for the ABS similar to R154 gearbox. I hope this will help.

From the picture there is a toothed gear for the ABS sensor beside the speedo drive gear, could you tell me how many teeth are on this gear please.
Thanks

Warren

Can I use the abs sensor for the ect?

It will be easier to recreate the same pulse rate at the larger diameter required by my adapter

The ECT speed sensor is the 32 toothed wheel in that pic.
The worm gear drives the speedo sensor.

UZS131 Crowns have a 32 tooth ECT speed sensor, every other 1UZ has a 4 tooth one.

I have a feeling that the ABS unit uses one of these sensors (not sure which one).

I was told today that the ECT does not need a speed imput to function, is this true?

From what youve said Peewee, the 32 tooth sensor is needed for the ECT, and i wont need the worm drive as the transfer case speed will be used for the speedo

I wont use the abs as i dont have any wheel sensors, and have an already complete nissan patrol braking system

The workshop manual from which I sourced my information was from a Mk3 Supra. The A340E gearbox is the auto they use and looks similar to the A341E gearbox. The sensor below the speedo drive is used on this model for the ABS brakes.

What about the sensor up by the bellhousing? (Present on A341E, but not used on the A340x trannies - although there is a boss there to mount one)

what ecu are you using

is yr setup a complete crown engine ecu and seperate auto ecu

or have u used a different ecu and a crown auto box

depending what u have done will dpeend what u need

if u have a crown setup with 2 ecus and such then i have a device that will go inbetween the transfer case and the speedo cable for the dash and it wures up to the crown engine ecu and auto ecu

and will change gears correctly

the abs sensor still goes to the auto ecu after it goes to the abs ecu but is not needed unless you want to make it failsafe

the reason is if one speed sensor fails then there is a backup

if there is no backup sensor when the main sensor fails u will not change gears properly

but let us know what setup you have and i can let u know what u need to
get it goin right

Cebby, i hadnt noticed one near the bellhousing, i doubt it could be speed though, its on the wrong end of all the gears

Thanks Sideshow, im planning on running the complete crown setup, of course i havent thought about that yet, ive got to get the engine in first. How much for your device?

Can I throw away the ABS computer if im not running ABS?

yer throw the abs ecu out
as the signal goes into the abs unit then out to the auto ecu

its 150 aussie dollars

and gives the correct signal to the auto and engine ecu on the spd wire which is violet with white

and then u can run the speedo cable onto this aswell so u have a cable goin to the dash

I assume your converter senses when low range is engaged and adjusts the signal based on the (programable?) low range ratio

This may well be my solution

Could this be used to correct my speedo reading?

the speedo cable works of the transfer case
so this might cause probs if you fit the electric speed signal between hi and low gears in the transfer

might have to try another way

ill think bout it and getg back to u

The speed sensor is on the transfer output shaft. It reads speed normally, but I doubt the auto will understand a 4th gear top speed of 50km/h

I can have something machined into the adapter, but a plug in item would be simpler
