I visited a shop today who had just installed a Sooarer engine in a Lux.

It wouldn't idle rather it hunted between 500 and 1,500rpm.

When you cracked the throttle it stalled.

Fuel pressure is 43lb as required.

With the fuel return line clamped shut it did the same thing.

We changed spark plugs and FPR plus ran it without the AFM/MAF but behaved the same.

Couldn't find any unplugged sensors.

THe ECU was wired by an experience auto sparks but I suspect something may have gone amiss here.

It ran a little better when feeding it carby cleaner but the spark plugs were black as soot.

Any ideas as I'm stumped!

who is the experienced auto elect

hope it wasnt one of mine heheheheh
if so let me know

anyway i recon it sounds like air flow meter

i have fixed afew stuff ups from other wire up type people and they mod the loom abit and they usually break to power to the air flow meter

if they get stumped get them to tow it to my shop

i have many spare parts and usually fix things within an hour

Sideshow,

No it wasn't one of yours, rest easy.

They tried swapping the airflow meter with a known good one.

It ran the same with the brake vac line off or on. The manifolds hadn't been off as this was my first line of thought.

I'll get them to try the diagnostics box.

I suspect the IAC could be either seized or still trying to correct itself.

Looks like Monday will be back to the shop to see if I can help.

As I said to them "the engine was running in the last car so it must something you have done.

I know they replaced the waterpump and timing belt. But the timing is spot on as we checked that.

ive had guys check timing heaps of times and i still find it out

but thats usualy 1 tooth out which wont stop it reving

iac will only affect idle not stall car

they need to hook up afew test lights and see whay they loose when they rev it and it stalls

can they rev it and eventually get it to rev up hi

still easiest thing to do is try get a scanner onto it

will tell u in a sec if air flow is working

anyway cant giv out too much info heheheheheeh

Jim,

You help is appreciated.

I'll see them on Monday and see how it goes.

THe engine is a SSS unit so I would suspect it is very good as those guys don't deal in junk. I've dealt with them for over 15 years and have never been let down.

yer they are pretty good

least when i have car there i can try other ecus and airflows and stuff to test before customer has to buy the parts

anyway if it worked in another car sounds liek a wiring issue or ecu

check it for smells

Fixed,

The sparky only wired one of the 12v feeds,

The AFM wasn't getting any power.

Perhaps they should have used a reputable sparky?

Runs beautifully now!
