FIXED SC400 Nakamichi Blows Fuses
New to a SC400, 95 with the Nakamichi Premium. Amp is a B336, stereo is a 24300. Can plug the amp in to the CD changer, antenna, etc...but the 4 wire connector on the side instantly blows Radio Fuse #1 under the hood, 20 AMP.
Now, 2 wires go to the subwoofer, the other is the blue/yellow power and the brown is ground. I disconnected the red side of the subwoofer wire to eliminate the subwoofer being grounded out. Still blows the stereo fuse.
I can disconnect the antenna and the CD changer ( both work ) and plug the side connector in and there goes the radio fuse.
Unplugged the orange connector under the seats and checked it out, all seems fine.
So, on the amp itself...the connector pins for the brown and blue/yellow are shorted together. I do not know if this is designed to have the 12V on constantly, but it seems to me a ground pin should never be shorted to the power, correct? That is on the amp itself with no connectors attached.
But the fuse stays intact under all other conditions until that plug goes into the amp. Instant pop. Otherwise the HU stays lit and the CD changer starts cycling and the antenna goes up and down fine.
Seems odd but these amps are a pain to find and not cheap, making me want to change the system out for aftermarket. If anyone has one out of a car and can check those 2 pins on the amp to see if they are also shorted together I would appreciate it. May giove me incentive to run the entire wiring gamut and check for a short somewhere.
Any other ideas are appreciated.
Thanks.
