Rotary gear change

Hi All
Anybody looked at replacing the standard gear shift and link rod, I saw a rotery switck in a hotrod mag and he just used a 5 position switch and some led's, any thoughts on this, I would think its only wires to the ECU

The shifter is connected to the gearbox by a linkage.

The lever moves a shaft that runs into the gearbox.

You could replace the linkage with a servo motor and some micro-switches but I could see it being a lot of work.

I'm thinking programming the logic circuit would be the hard part.

I did see a mobility push button gear selector and it will fit the Lexus LS400
