ok I just got given a 1uz out of a sc400 car had about 80k on it the guy was gonna do a build but lost intrest then he gave it to another guy but he wanted the vvti so he didn't use it and now it is my turn......
so what do I do I have to stay within a somewhat light on the cost what would you guy's do if you were gonna do the build... I fugure it will be better if I ask first before I start buying part's I don't need here r the #'s on the front of the motor I guess it is best to start here 0312470 and then off to the side there is what look's to be the letter Z any help would be very helpfull

The SC400 is a great car with a lot of potential for power and look. 80K miles on the car is nothing. What do you want the car to have, more power, better handling, better look?

well I have a ls 400 91 I want to be able to get about 330 to 400rwhp on motor only if I have to then a vortec v1 or v2 but the motor was free so I had to go for it where should I start??

You can put a "Fish Bracket" for the supercharger on the stock motor, and you can make 330 rwhp or more. But you have to run bigger fuel injectors, fuel pump, and an ECU to control that.

ok so go with the super charger route but where do I start like piston's cam's just going with a stock rebuild who should I get a hold of to order the replacement stuff and is a breakin of a new 1uz motor with supercharger smart or should I do the breakin without it then after about 1k to 2k miles then install the supercharger??
if I could afford it I would just order the long block and be done with it but that is 3grand I don't have lol lol

Is your car currently running? The stock (unopened) engine can support more than 400 rwhp reliably with good tuning. If you really want to build the engine, then yes, Lextreme has pistons & rods for you on the product page. Or if you want a kinda new OEM rebuild, you can get a used JDM engine and change all gaskets, then it'll be good for your hp goal. You don't need to touch pistons or rods.

well this motor has been sitting outside and I think I need to pull off the head's there is no intake I figured I would just use the one that is in my car when I am ready to drop in the new rebuilt motor but like cam's where can I get replacement one's or should I just have the one's I got redone if I can also where can I order all of the gasket's from I was thinking about taking it all apart and haveing the block hoaned just to clean up the wall's and " you know how they look so shinny when the block is cleaned I was gonna look into haveing some kind of sealent put on the block so it will stay shinny " don't know if that can be done but anywayz I am gonna do a big build later but for right now the motor that is in my 91ls400 has a oil leak I think it is commin from the front main and seeing that I was given a free motor what better time to rebuild one to learn about the working's of a 4 cam motor then later on do a big build anyone got a step by step I can follow also what do the # stamped on the block mean I am fond of the us v8 but one cam is all they got so I am excited to tear into this one and rebuild and then drop it in and enjoy the new sound's and look's of a new motor

Check out Lextreme's product section. It has an OEM rebuilt kit. If you can, test the compression to see if your motor is still healthy so you could decide if you'll need to re-hone the block. I guess you can't do it with the engine outside. I have a spare intake manifold set (lower and upper) so if you need it, I'll let it go for cheap. A freshly re-built motor will handle 400 rwhp easily. Make sure you'll use ARP head studs because they're stronger than OEM bolts. You can use OEM head gaskets for easy sealing.

Building the 1UZ isn't too hard; it's just double work comparing to a 4 banger. Powercoating the engine will give it a great look if you're into show.

If you turbocharge/supercharge the 1UZ, I'd recommend that you'll stay with stock cams.

well I took the head's off and this is what I found enjoy the pic's

Damn! That's a retired engine sitting outside for awhile. Basically that's just a long block that needs a complete rebuild. You'll need new bearings, rings, gaskets, and perhaps a new honing job if the cylinder walls are rusted/scratched. The pistons & rods can be cleaned & maybe re-balanced, too.

I have one like that as a dummy engine...
Would be less $$ to buy another complete engine..
Recon it if you want serious power...
