Hello all
Im new on here but have been reading for quite some time, I have some questions reguarding drive train and gear ratios.
Heres a little bit about the car, its a 1974 Lotus Elite 502, orignally equipped with the lotus 907 2.0 liter DOHC, about 160HP, the popular mod of the times was to put in the buick/rover 215 v8. Unfortuanatly my state doesnt allow engines that are older than the car to be transplanted,
so the next all alloy V8 available is 1uzfe.
Because of the chassis design of the Elite the only tranny that ive verified will fit without modding the chassis is the Borg-Warner T-5, this will be mated to a narrowed ford 9 inch
The questions im having now relate to the transmission gear ratios 1st through 5th, I found a differential calculator that informed me that the best diff ratio for my top speed preference (160 mph) is about 2.7:1 with 245/45/16 wheels.
However this didnt tell me the best ratios for the tranny. Which im sure would affect the final drive ratio as well.
How do i determine the best 1st through 5th gears?
Thank you
Mike
