Toyota has announced a Lexus RX accidental acceleration recall. The recall is an expansion of the recalls that earned Toyota a massive amount of bad press in recent years.

Recall now contains Lexus

There was a flaw in the floor mats causing accidental acceleration in Toyota vehicles, which is why it launched a recall in 2011. Fires and vehicle rollovers are really the only things that are worse for an automaker than accidental acceleration when it comes to automotive defects. Audi almost went bankrupt in the 1990s when there were reports of unintended acceleration which were unfounded.

It was also a problem for Toyota when the recall was publicized. The United States government fined the business $48.8 million when the defect was found, according to the Boston Globe, and over 14 million vehicles were recalled across the world, about 7.8 million in the United States, according to AutoBlog. The problem was that the floor mats in Toyota vehicles would trap the acceleration pedal in the “open” position.

Toyota has just publicized a recall of the Lexus RX, with accidental acceleration being the reason.

Expected problem or automaker

About 3.8 million vehicles were recalled in 2009 for sticking floor mats in the United States, which means Toyota has been aware of the floor mat difficulties for a while. The National highway Traffic Safety Administration required that Toyota recall the Lexus RX too now that the NHTSA has gotten some complaints about the crossover, according to USA Today.

The reason is identical. The floor mats of the 2010 Lexus RX crossover can “stick,” trapping the pedal and thereby forcing the throttle open. There are approximately 154,000 vehicles affected by the recall, including 131,800 RX350 models and 22,200 RX450h models, with the RX450h being the hybrid version of the vehicle.

Accidental acceleration encounter

In case you are impacted by the recall, you need to get the mat out of the way after coming to a complete stop if you are facing unintended acceleration. Press the brake firmly if your car is going forward on its own and put it into neutral until you can get the automobile stopped and off the road. Do not panic.

Owners will be notified soon of the recall and will be directed to take their automobile to their nearest Toyota or Lexus service center. The floor mats will be changed for free.
