I was wondering if an IS200 6-speed is an option if I'm going to transplant a 1UZ-FE in my s14A.

Is it a strong gearbox?
And what are the gear-ratio's?

If it's a good choice, I can buy a manual from a junkyard and a 1UZ-FE so that a specialist can make a adapterplate to match them together...

IS200 = povo Lexus Altezza (rs200).

To answer your question, the Aisin 6spd is pretty weak. They came in a whole range of cars, including the s15 200sx, the is200, and mazda mx6... off the top of my head. There's a reason that drifters in japan swap the 6spd for an s14 5 speed, it's stronger. Basically the 5 and 6 speeds are identical on the outside. The 6spd just has an extra gear crammed in, making them small overall.

End of the day, they hold 250rwkw in s15's before they start encountering problems. That may be enough for you.... who knows.

Isn't that the J160? If so, that box breaks under the strain of a 2.0L N/A motor. You'll need something a little more stout.

OK thanx 4 the info.

I'll keep the s14-box for now. Maybe I'll find another 6-speed somewhere.
To bad the supra 6-speed is way to big...

For the US boys the IS200 is the same as the IS300 but with a 2 litre 6 cylinder that can't pull the skin of a rice pudding (1G-FE). It is fitted with a J160 6 speed box made by Aisin in Japan. Not a very strong box at all. A lot of IS200 owners have problems with the box.

I fitted a 1JZ into my IS200 but used the Getrag V160 box. The 1UZ would kill the J160 box about the 2nd time you dumped the clutch on it - it is the torque of the V8 that would do the harm.
