Heated Seats - Literally burning up?

Is it possible for the edge of a heated seat (LS400 '91) to burn from the inside out and burn a hole in the seat?

Aren't the heating wires inside the middle of the back of the seat only? This burn occured on the inside edge of the seat bottom !

I can't for the life of me think of what other possible source of this burnt hole could be.

Maybe I need to up my meds.

Anyway, has anyone ever seen anything like what I'm describing?

The resistance wire runs throughout the seat bottom cushion as well as the seat back.
The wire sits just under the surface of the leather cover. It is possible the wire has a weak spot and creates considerable resistance at that weak spot. It can burn through the thin fabric rather easily. I have never seen any LS's burn down because of it however!

Thanks. I wonder if I must throw this seat out and find a replacement, or am I inviting my guest sitting next to me to a burnt ass?

Is anyone familiar with a fix for this?

Probably an open circuit now. Dont turn on the seat heater unless you really dont like your passenger!
