Fuel pump relay

I pulled out my fuel pump relay earlier today and it seems to of melted its socket it is plugged into:261: and the contact pins have a thin layer of plastic on them. What could of caused this and could it be related to my low idle and low rpm pinging problems?

Sounds like it got hot!

I would assume if the plastic is insulating any of the pins then yes it could be the cause.

I'd try cleaning the pins and seeing if it makes any difference to the running.

Have you had any substantial short circuits in the car?

Not that i know of, iv only owned the car six months but when i did buy it, the leads and plugs had to be changed due to the old owner hosing down the engine bay could this be related...
I also noticed that the car seems to ping around half way on the temp gauge should the car be getting that hot?

any info would be a great help because i would like to sort this out before summer begins and it starts to get hotter
