Hi guys, some of you know im doing a Swap on my Lexus IS200 1G to a 1UZ,

Anyone familiar with the V160 gearbox? my IS200 has the 6spd Getrag J160 M/T. I think that V160, in turn, is from Supra Mk IV, and it's said to be in-destructible

Anyone knows the differences between those two gearboxes?

I only know off 2 IS200 running 300 to 400 BHP with the IS gearbox....well i was thinking of useing it on my swap! as i have it siting there, i was going to make aadaptor/plate up so i can mate it to the 1UZ bellhousing .....but the BIG Q ? is i dont know how much Power this Box can take.

what do you think guys..

Marcus, I would first go to Getrag's website and try to figure out which of their 3 current inline 6spd boxes is yours. Since Toyota is such a big customer of Getrag, they may make a slightly different one just for Toyota, but it should have most of the characteristics of one of these.

The boxes I found are the 6MTI300, 6MTI520, and the 6MTI750, and these have 300, 520, and 750 Newton Meters torque capacity respectively, which translated in American terms, are 221, 384, and 553 lbft of torque. I'm guessing the IS probably has the 300Nm box in it, or a derivative of this box.

Next, contact Getrag directly and tell them what your car is, and ask them if any of these transmissions is yours. They'll be more inclined to answer your query if you've done a bit of research. I've found their sales & technical support people to be very responsive in the past.

Hi mate, yea i have been on there website, but can not seem to see anything............like you say i will be giveing them a call in the next day or 2.....

Thanks anyway for you help :)

You would have to assume the Altezza 6 speed wont be anywhere near the V160/161. Simply put, its a 2.0 NA not making crazy power stock. If you dont go turbo, it may not be a bad choice though!

The thing is with this Gearbox no one knows how much power this box can take...........like i said there are 2 guys running Turbo setups on there IS200 with this box, one of them is boosting 1.2bar and he is geting 400 bhp the 2 guy is boosting just under 1 bar and geting just over 300 bhp....and the 2 cars are running ok. my thinking of going with this box is, if i fit it and it seems ok and runs well, i can then test it to see what it can take "ie" i will run at 7psi to start with and if all seems ok i will up it to 9psi and so on......upto about 12/14 psi..........and if it holds and drives well, then the V8 guys have a new gearbox to pick from:scratchchin: ;)

if your IS200 has a 3S-GE motor you have a Aisn or however you spell it transmission.

it is a 6speed, but is shared between S15 silvia's, and Mazda RX8's and Miata's.
