coil packs

hi all. i have got a 1992 1uz engine in my offroad race truck. it sees a lot of extreme use. and it hates water.
i think the coil packs are braking up when the engine is submerged. as i have checked the distributers and they are still clean inside.
what i am after is to find out if my engine can be converted to run plug top coil packs and if it has been done before at all. this is my first one of these engines and any help will be greatfully appreciated.

Have you tried waterproofing the coils? Some heatshrink sleeving over the connections could work, also some silicone applied along the edges of the plastic sparkplug covers would keep any moisture out.
