Can engine number determine year?

Hi all,

Long time no post.

I was jsut wondering if anyone knows how to determine what year your engine is from the engine number?

To legally register my car, I need to have the emissions control sticker for the corresponding year attached.

Does anyone know a way of establishing the year from the engine number.

I have searched Lextreme trying to find and sorry for such a n00b question.

Here in the US the engine number (VIN) contains year, and what type of vehicle the motor was installed in. In Oz, I don't think the number carries that much info.

Most guys in Oz get the year of their engine from looking at the spark plug wires - apparently it's marked on the OEM wire set.

With your part number on your ecu you should be able to go close for the year of manufacture and the vehicle it came from
