Budget single turbo- what say you?

What turbo for grassroots single turbo? My goal is 400hp on the street.

I would like to keep the budget for the turbo at aroud $500-600.

Here's a couple turbos I'm considering:

Master Power t70. These are really popular with the turbo mustang guys.

Holset H2E, maybe H1E or HX40. I'm not a big fan of the odd ball sizes v-band and the integrated WG. They are also in demand for the turbo diesel guys, so are pretty expensive for a used turbp

And the ebay ssac stone "t70" Which is supposed to be more like a t61. A bit smaller, faster spooling, on the edge of the efficiency island. But **** is cheap... $375 including 50mm WG and bov. I have seen a couple people run these on HMT, without problems. It's pretty tempting.

holset are an oil cooled, plain bush item with reasonably heavy impellers - like my KKK.

that said, you'll never kill one. their build quality is second to none. and just because they're older in design doesn't mean they're obsolete. HX40 is a minimum here - i would look at the HX50 myself.

i know of a few people running those eBay turbos without any probs - but make sure you get a pic of the exhaust outlet before you bid - some are the wrong way around!!! they're also a nightmare to get any kind of warranty support on.

but most use genuine garret wheels in cheaper water cooled, plain bush cores. but like David said too, the exhaust wheels are generally the olskool T3 housings with new-er T61/T70 fronts on them - read - the exhaust side is too small.

and V bands suck.
 
I bought a Holset H1E. It is comparable to a HX40. It is a remanufacturer unit, I paid $275. Definitely not as smokin' a deal as that KKK you got, but it should meet my goals.

sealing isn't great (open to a lot of different way of doing it too), the flanges crack and it's not a "structural" support like bolting.
 
Which links are you having problems with? The turbo pics are uploaded on Putfile, which I haven't had any problems with in the past.

dunno, i just can't view them

looks similar both compressor and exhaust wise to the KKK i have actually.

and still a score!!!
