Is there a 'test port' to put a trans/ fluid temp gauge sensor into ?
... I want to put a trans/fluid temp gauge in... has anybody done this ? Are there any surgestions as to what one to use ?
Trans shouldn't be bad, get a t-fitting and put in the cooler lines. I would consider one in the outlet of the trans one and at the inlet. Then you can see cooler efficiency.

There is a temp sensor in the pan but tapping into it can cause the ECU to get a different reading due to the multiple pullups involved when the signal goes two ways.
there's free software available that can read live data via simple k-line interface ($10 chinese cable for VAG-com). works with 1998-2003 models, newer cars require can-bus adapter.
apparently there's a bunch of issues with it...language and the need of tweaking, to name just two. afaik there's no other software around THAT capable. of course there's toyota techstream software, but you normally don't want it to run on your car-pc
