Does anyone know how the heater pipe connections at the rear of the 1UZFE Engine which fit into the front and rear cooling bridges are sealed in place. Is it just an o-ring, or is there some other type of sealant/ compression fit involved.

many thanks

just a rubber o-ring. its a good idea to use some sort of lubricant around the o-ring when installing it (like vaseline). Inspect after inserting to make sure the o-ring goes all the way in and doesn't get damaged. You can also clean and then seal up the back of the pipe afterwards with auto grade silicon.

Might be best to take a look in your service manual or google the assemble. The pipe runs from the thermostat housing under the intake manifold to the rear of the engine to feed the heater. It doesn't conect to the rear coolant bridge. Replacement of the o-ring at the thermostat housing requires the intake to be removed.
