1UZ Exhaust Manifold Gasket (1997 sc400)

Hello,
I have a 1997 sc400. and I need to know how to replace the exhaust gasket. One side of the gasket is silver and the other side is black with an orange paint mark on the corner. which side faces the head?
I've read that it does make a difference.

Not sure on the 97 but the 98-00 service manual states "place a new gasket on the cylinder head with the white painted marks facing the manifold side"

This is referencing exhaust manifold to cylinder head installation. The white marks referenced are painted on the small tab above the bolt hole. Hope this helps.
