hi Cobolt, It's called a Watts linkage, its purpose is to locate the rear axel horizontally sideways, and still allow it to travel vertically, the 4 links running forward locate the diff from moving in a front to rear direction. this should help. http://www.answers.com/topic/watt-s-linkage...

Hi jibbby, yes it is FWD, so that helps the space inside, the only complaint i have is the seats are high up its a 2000 version, my wife likes that so she can see well ahead, but to me it gives the feeling it's a little top heavy in the tight corners or you feel like it will fall over part way...

Yes the pipe is a balance tube or x crossover, from what i have read it is better than a y type i have attached a old hotrod article where they tested the difference, old but good info. I had to split into multiple PDF to post but is well worth the read.
