    Volvo 242GT re-engine

Engine mounts now fabricated using ideas from cjsupra90 and ed ma61. Everything made from 5mm steel plate and steam pressure pipe. Bushes are urathane measuring 32mmOD, 19mmID, 40mm total length, with a crush tube insert for 14mm bolt. My weldings not pretty, but with a bit of a clean up and...

    Using Urathane for engine mounts

This has been really helpful. Now to get the tools out and create something that works.

    Using Urathane for engine mounts

cjsupra90, love the fact you have no pictures, just a 3D CAD drawing. I'm still in the pencil and paper age. Anyway, a question for you and Ed ma61, what size were the bushes you used.

    Using Urathane for engine mounts

cjsupra90, that's sounds like what I'm after. Can I ask what way your bushes are used. The OEM bushes use a bolt top and bottom whereas I had thought of using the urethane bush with a bolt thru front to back similar to that used in a suspension trailing arm or similar. This would give a greater...

    Using Urathane for engine mounts

Having not started or been in a vehicle with a UZ motor, how smooth are they? Is vibration or roughness an issue at idle or cruising? From what I've been lead to believe, I'm guessing the urethane bush should be ok.

    RMS, thanks for that.

    Volvo 242GT re-engine

Erol, thanks for the reply. I realise the project was a one off and a fair time ago but do you remember what you did to the steering? I've move the column over but I still need a bit more space. I'm looking at using a longer universal at the steering column end to gain some space, and if this...

    Using Urathane for engine mounts

I've read projects were people have designed their engine mounts using urathane bushes as well as others using rubber. Whilst rubber is the traditional method, does the urathane give any particular benefits, and what about vibrations and noise thru the mounts? I'm sure everyone will have an...

    Volvo 242GT re-engine

740atl, the trial fit was without the UZ sump. The engine came with a rear sump, but it cannot be used so a new one is to be made. To give you an idea, if the rear sump was used only half the lower metal bowl could be used because of the cross member location. I made a protective cover for the...

    Volvo 242GT re-engine

After a lot of planning and doing all the little things from a maintenance point of view I've finally got around to test fitting the 1UZFE into the project vehicle, a 1979 Volvo 242GT. Not the prettiest subject but its solid, well engineered and rust free. Things like the body and paint will...

Adaptor plate - W series to auto bellhousing

Hi-Lex, followed your suggestion and went in search of the Jeep unit. Of the two local wreckers/parts suppliers I contacted their price made the Howe unit look competitive. Reliability of the unit was also bought into question but whether this was on or off road use couldn't be verified. If...

    Gear selector location W57

MWP, I assume that the swap requires the changing of the whole mechanism in the rear housing, correct? Any idea of how easy it is to get the parts needed. 3barboost, the 'extender' your talking obout. Do you have any pictures or further information. The Bullet Cars website is a bit light on...

    Gear selector location W57

Can any of the many technically minded people out there provide information as to how easy it is to swap the gear shifter location on a w57 Supra box. Mine is centrally located in the top plate but I need to re-locate it further back, over the output shaft. Can this be done easily with the...

Adaptor plate - W series to auto bellhousing

Hi-lex, have done some internet research and found the input shaft on the Jeeps is 25mm in diameter and it appears the hydraulic throwout bearing suits this size (or so it suggests). The Supra requires a bearing to fit a 35mm diameter shaft such as the Howe 82870. Also the Jeep units appear to...

    Wanted LS400 Fan Pulley Assembly

I need to replace the Hydraulic Fan unit from a 1996 SC400 with a standard fan pulley assembly as I want to retain the airconditioning compressor and the standard belt. Hopefully someone has one.
