Thanks for asking! The van still looks like the pictures in this thread--no major changes, yet. The OEM shocks are completely shot, so I will shortly be ordering some suspension components from Japan. I think my beloved 18" Work Wheels are going to prevent me from upgrading the brakes as much...
I searched online for the VDS reflected in your VIN, and I found the NHTSA filing each manufacturer had to make for each model year:
https://www.nhtsa.gov/filebrowser/download/211951
It doesn't show any additional codes for California, so it could be that there were no special "California"...
If this were a Honda motorcycle (my main area of experience), I would mention that the 4th-8th characters in the vehicle's 17-digit VIN identify the market and variation for which the vehicle had been intended to be first sold. For example, 1990's era 49-state bikes have a 0 in the 8th position...
Sure, if you know which part number you need. I bought a spare 3UZ ECM on UK eBay a couple of years ago (along with an engine wiring harness). There's a group of guys who can flash them in New Zealand, Russia, California and the UK; they all use the same technique to remove the immobilizer and...
Hmmm, I see Phoenix hasn't posted any YouTube videos for 10 months, so I'm not sure Chris is still operating the business? In addition to Kelvin and George_R, Quantum-Auto.com in the US also seems to offer the same re-maps. If Phoenix is gone I will be in the same boat as you, because I still...
I'm pretty sure George_R in Russia, Kelvin in NZ, Phoenix in UK and others can remap a Crown Majesta ECM. Don't know about the 112mph cruise control limit, but that probably wouldn't be a deal-breaker for me!

Thanks, Rod.
I hadn't realised the rivnut/ground issue; it seems there is a wide difference of opinion on this use of rivnuts (judging from various forums). I always make sure the surfaces (inside and out) are free of paint, and I use knurled and serrated stainless steel rivnuts to get the...
In building a new engine harness, what's the best way to deal with the numerous GNDs connecting to the ECM?
On my 3UZ (6-speed) ECM:
B2 (EC Chassis GND)
C1 (E02 RHS cylinder head GND)
C2 (E01 RHS cylinder head GND)
D4 (ME01 RHS cylinder head GND)
D6 (E03 LHS cylinder head GND)
D28 (E2 sensor...
Hi Patrick,
Did you use aluminium crush washers on those fittings, or Dowty seals? They're not under much pressure, but I would normally try to seal the surfaces as well as the threads.
Ciao,
JZH
Impressive. Did you do this work before Lithium batteries became a practical alternative? (Or are they still not practical for this application?)
Ciao,

Hmmm. Thinking about this again, P5 on the Hiace A/C Amplifier is an input, not an output, so it would not itself provide a (-) to the All4Swap box (which effectively controls the 3UZ engine speed via its CAN connection to the 3UZ ECM). So, for the All4Swap box I need to find a way to supply a...
Thanks, George. I already have your LS430 instrument panel device, so in that case I can further simplify this diagram as shown below:
(Of course, the various inputs to the All4Swap device will also be connected to, e.g., the LS430/3UZ ECM via CAN-H and CAN-L.)
I don't think there would be...
Well, this forum is not very active anymore, so you're probably going to be doing most of the work yourself! I've been planning a 3UZ conversion for my 2013 Hiace van for a few years, but I'm still not yet at the wrenching stage. However, I have slowly been accumulating information and...
